A special €uro-Star heifer sale took place in conjunction with the usual cattle sale. The majority of these were good-quality continental-bred heifers that were four and five stars on the replacement index.

There was a good deal of farmer interest in maiden heifers, with the main demand for good-quality heavier heifers over 480kg. Top-quality heifers with good breeding potential sold from €1,200 to over €1,450. However, the number of these better-quality heavier types on offer was not huge.

Lighter and plainer heifers were met with mixed demand, regardless of star rating. Lighter four- and five-star weanling heifers with good conformation sold mainly from €2.10/kg to €2.40/kg.

The general sale saw a fairly steady trade for all good-quality forward stores and light stores. In the bullock ring, buyers were most active for good-quality R and U grade types, with heavy bullocks selling from €650 to €750 over the weight. Lighter stores from 400kg to 500kg were reasonably steady, although plain bullocks remain a slower sell. The heifer trade saw firm demand for all good-quality types, but like bullocks, plain heifers remain a slow sell.

Commission rates are €9 to the buyer and 2% to the seller to a maximum of €20/head.
