Farmers, contractors and representatives of the machinery trade gathered in Fenagh, Co Carlow, for a surplus farm machinery auction on behalf of the Balfarm Group.
"I am very pleased with how the auction went, and I must thank everybody who came," auctioneer Michael Doyle told the Irish Farmers Journal after the auction. "I'm very happy with the volume of machinery sold and I think there was something for everyone – big and small, old and new."
The auctioneer's commission was subject to 23% VAT and was as follows:

€400 + VAT on sales between €8,001 and €10,000.
€500 + VAT on sales above €10,000.
Machines at the auction included:
A 3m Amazone power harrow drill combination, fully reconditioned. It sold for €17,500 incl VAT + commission = €18,115.
A 3m front press with front tines. It sold for €3,800 incl VAT + commission = €3,990.
A 4m Amazone Cirrus drill (like new), seed only. The highest bid was €17,000 but a deal was not reached.
A 4m Farmforce hydraulically folding front press c/w tines and steering. It sold for €2,000 no VAT + commission = €2,123.
A 4m Knight cultivator with knock-on points and spare parts. It sold for €5,000 incl VAT + commission = €5,250.
A five-part zigzag harrow. It sold for €200 no VAT + commission = €212.
A 6ft steel ring front press. It sold for €400 no VAT + commission = €425.
A 10ft land roller. It sold for €1,600 no VAT + commission = €1,699.
A 24ft tandem-axle livestock trailer. It sold for €3,100 no VAT + commission = €3,290.
A 24ft Smyth Tri-Axle trailer with rear steering axle, sprung drawbar, hydraulic brakes and floatation tyres. It sold for €14,500 incl VAT + commission = €15,115.
An 800L Berthoud mounted sprayer. It sold for €1,500 no VAT + commission = €1,590.
A 1991 Ford 7810 4wd. It sold for €7,900 no VAT + commission = €8,392.

A Dal Bo three-section Cambridge ring-roller including manually adjusted levelling paws with very little wear. It sold for €9,000 incl VAT + commission = €9,490.
A Deutz-Fahr 3640 Combine 16ft head. It sold for €14,500 incl VAT + commission = €15,115.
A Gregoire-Bession six-furrow Vari-width. It Sold for €12,000 incl VAT + commission = €12,615.
A Honda 300 Quad with new rear tyres. It Sold for €2,000 no VAT + commission = €2,120.
An Ifor-Williams 510 Horsebox. It sold for €2,300 no VAT + commission = €2,440.
