There were 287 calves on offer in Bandon Mart this week and, according to mart manager Tom McCarthy, there was a 100% clearance rate.

Trade carried on where it left off last week and remained steady. Most of the beef breed-crosses sold for between €150 and €300.

Friesian bulls

Friesian bull calves made between €50 and €145 for export-type calves, while older Friesian bulls were making up to €210.

Lighter calves or those from Jersey-cross herds were selling below this price bracket. This applied to both Friesians and beef-crosses.

Beef-crosses

Traditional beef breed-cross bull calves sold for between €150 and €345, with heifers of these breeds selling for between €120 and €300.

Continental calves were very scarce this week, but remained in good demand.

Heifers sold for up to €385 and continental bulls sold up to €350.

There was a small selection of Friesian heifer calves suitable for breeding. These sold for up to €220.

Dry cows

Tom reported a lift in cow numbers and the prices followed.

There were 94 cows on offer and prices ranged from €100 under the €/kg to €50 with the weight.

Finished cows were making €1.20/kg to €1.30/kg and met good demand.

Feeder cows sold for up to €1.15/kg, while parlour cows made up to €1/kg.

This 18-day-old Angus bull calf sold for €270.

A 16-day-old Angus bull calf sold for €245.

This stronger 27-day-old Friesian bull calf sold for €140.

This Hereford-cross heifer calf born 10 January 2019 sold for €200.

This light Angus heifer born 13 January 2019 sold for €160.

This good-quality 27-day-old continental bull calf sold for €350.

This 18-day-old Angus bull calf sold for €270.
