I love decorating my front door. It’s the first thing that people see, and it is almost like a business card for your home. If your front door is so nice, people will wonder what’s behind it. I change the look of my front door every season with accessories, but here are some top tips if you want to give your entrance a new look.

People often ask what colour my front door is. It’s “Pantry Blue” by Colourtrend and it’s such a soft, warm colour that compliments the stone surrounding the entrance.

No matter what colour your door is, however, you can add a “wow factor” by painting two pot planters in the same shade and placing them on either side of the entrance. This follows a design rule of repeating a colour in one to three places for impact.

I have always loved plants, but since our twins Max and Zoe, were born in September, I don’t really have as much time to water them! That’s why I am currently using more artificial plants and grasses that I sourced in Dunnes Stores and IKEA. When placing plants at the front door, the most important thing to remember is to vary the different shapes and the heights of your plants to add interest visually. Placing them in groups of three can also be effective.

Another tip is to decorate the top of the door. I have attached artificial eucalyptus stems that I bought in IKEA, and hung up two candle holders at different heights, again for visual interest. They sway in the wind and really add life to the entrance.

You can have fun and express your personality with your doormat. You can pick one up cheaply, but I’ve actually had my doormat for five years and just paint it when I want to change it, using leftover paint. Most recently, I’ve painted a sausage dog! It’s a cheap and cheerful DIY project and you can do it with children too.
