A Co Carlow family is coming to terms with the theft of their €30,000 tractor.

The 2005-reg John Deere 6920s was stolen from the O’Toole farm in Rathoe, Co Carlow, on St Patrick’s Day.

Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal, Seamus O’Toole said the family is still in shock. “It’s not right; it’s a barbarous act altogether. It’s a good safe tractor. There are six or eight weights on the front and the wheels have fairly distinctive yellow rims.”

He said the tractor was stolen at about 7.30pm.

“There was a sighting of the tractor in Castlecomer in Co Kilkenny at about 8.30pm. Castlecomer is about an hour from here.

“It probably went across country and up through the hills. It was spotted in Urlingford at 9.30pm then. There was no sighting after that.

“I farm with my father and we are beef and tillage farmers. It’s busy enough on the farm at the minute. We have ploughing to be at and a bit of spraying to be at too.

“That tractor has good tyres on it. We’ll have to make do with the smaller tractor, but it’s a busy time of the year for us. It’s not the news you want to be hearing,” he said.

The O’Toole family is offering a reward should the tractor be recovered.
