Kennedy was proposed and seconded by a unanimous vote at the meeting as a second mooted candidate stepped out of the race. Richard Kennedy is a dairy farmer from Clarina, Co Limerick, and has the full support of the 51 IFA branches in the county.

Kennedy previously served as county chair in Limerick and was a defeated candidate in the 2009 IFA presidential election. John Bryan went on to win that election.

For deputy president, the candidate must have the signed support of five and not more than five chairs of other county executives.

Completed nomination and acceptance forms must be received no later than 5.30pm on Wednesday 3 February 2016.
