Submergence
18 May: Submergence is a romantic thriller film directed by Wim Wenders, based on JM Ledgard's famous novel. The film stars Alicia Vikander and James McAvoy. The couple meet at Christmas, where a chance encounter on a beach in France leads to an intense and enduring romance. Now, a year later in a room with no windows on the eastern coast of Africa, James is held captive by jihadist fighters. Thousands of miles away in the Greenland Sea, Danielle Flinders prepares to dive to the ocean floor. Worlds apart, we follow the couple as they go in search of one another to rekindle their love.
Titanic: The Musical
22 May: Titanic: The Musical debuted on Broadway in 1997 and swept the Tony Awards that year. Now this sensational show is coming to the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. With music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and the book by Peter Stone, Titanic of course tells the story of the RMS Titanic and its tragic sinking in April 1912 after striking an iceberg in the northern Atlantic Ocean, causing the loss of 1,517 lives. The musical tells the tale of real people who were aboard the ship, both those who lived, and those who died. It brings the stories of their lives, their hopes and their dreams to the stage in a moving and incredible spectacle. Visit www.bordgaisenergytheatre.ie for details.
The Nualas
19 May: The Nualas bring their comedy sketch live to the Visual and the George Bernard Shaw Theatre in Carlow for a night of madness, hysteria and just plain hilarious fun. The original trio were formed in a Dublin kitchen in May 1995, after which they played sold-out gigs in Dublin, Edinburgh and all around the world. They called it an end in 2001, but reunited in 2011 with a new member replacing Tara Flynn. Known as Ireland's first ladies of comedy, this promises to be a fantastic event that will have you bent over in your seat laughing. Visit www.visualcarlow.ie for more details and ticket prices.
