An overhauled 6R range from John Deere has been highly anticipated ever since the current generation 6M series broke cover in 2024. The wait is over, well kind of… as John Deere uncover a raft of updates for its two largest 6R chassis sizes. However, the small and mid-frame models are expected to benefit from similar upgrades in due course.
The updated Large and Xtra Large Frame models are denoted by a reshuffle in model numbering. Breaking things down, four large frame tractors will now be offered; 6R 180, 6R 200, 6R 220, 6R 240 alongside two Xtra Large Frame models 6R 230 & 6R 260.
The 6R 240 succeeds the current 6R 215 as the large frame range topper, increasing the max power for that particular chassis size from 259hp to 291hp.
Meanwhile, the max power of the Xtra Large chassis increases marginally with the arrival of the 6R 260, which churns out an extra 10hp of rated power. It boosts to 305hp, which is small 4hp increase on the 6R 250.
The flagship 6R also gets the option of a new e19 over the Autopowr CVT. The fully powershift transmission features dual clutches and proportional control valves for fast, jolt free gear changes. The standard CommandX Plus or an optional CommandX Pro joystick is available for the new e19 full PowerShift and AutoPowr transmissions.
A new Sport Package Pro combines chassis, steering and braking updates to improve stability, ride quality and steering precision during road transport.
Central to this is an updated TLS Pro front axle suspension that combines adaptive, adjustable damping and suspension with reinforced cylinders and automotive grade components. In automatic mode, the system adapts automatically to speed, load and surface conditions. Alternatively, operators can make their own manual adjustments.
Deere has fitted a new displacement-based braking system and automotive-style pedals which deliver progressive deceleration.
Ride comfort has been improved too with an updated Hydraulic Cab Suspension (HCS) system. Updates here include low-friction suspension cylinders, an updated controller and revised cab mountings. The result is a reduction in vibrations, and noise.

CommandView 4 cab
A new CommandView 4 cab has been introduced. Structurally, the cab frame has been redesigned and features forward sloping C pillars and a curved rear window, offering up to 20% improved implement visibility. A number of updates have been passed down from the firms recently updated 8R series. Internal volume has also increased, along with legroom, all of which contributes to a more natural seating position. A new ‘Vision Seat’ tops the seat portfolio, offering 50° swivel, electric adjustments and premium comfort features, such as neck ventilation.
A new 33cm steering wheel and a redesigned steering column with foot-operated memory adjustment has been added.
Adjustable seat damping, wider rim options, Variable Ratio Steering and the new Reactive Steering complement the Sport Package Pro.
Interior noise levels have been reduced following the relocation of steering and braking valves outside the cab, optimised cab mounting, quieter yet more powerful air conditioning and a sound-absorbing floor.
The CommandArm now has a convenience display added for adjusting seat, climate control, media, a new nine-colour ambient lighting system along with other cab settings. Other cab updates include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 6.1 sound system with subwoofer, wireless phone charging, multiple USB-C ports, and an 8.5l refrigerator.
Additional functional improvements include automatic display pre-booting when the cab door is opened, a 320-degree windscreen wiper, a new right-hand side wiper, automatic trailer steering axle lock when reversing, and a fully integrated Category IV cabin filter.

6R 240 and 6R 260 highlights
With an average shipping weight of 8,900 kg and up to 291 hp with Intelligent Power Management (IPM), the new 6R 240 offers a power to weight ratio of 30.5kg per horsepower.
It combines the series-turbocharged engine of the 6R 260 with a compact 2,800 mm wheelbase. The standard AutoPowr transmission offers up to 85% efficiency, supported by hydraulics up to 210 l/min, up to six fully independent rear spools plus two front spools and a Power Beyond hydraulic connection. Turning radius has been kept as tight as possible at 5.6m.
The specification also includes integrated single-line Central Tyre Inflation System (CTIS) with a dedicated 700l/min dual-piston compressor that can inflate 1 bar in only 4:30 minutes.
For the 6R 230 and 6R 260, optional EZ Ballast adds up to 1,700 kg at the push of a button while maintaining the ideal 40/60 weight distribution.
