Safety when filling pesticides is currently helped by good operator practice, induction hoppers and PPE.

The use of closed transfer systems (CTS), where the spray concentrate is never openly exposed, has been around for years, but adopting a standard for container caps has proven a hurdle.

But this year, growers are seeing the ‘easy connect’ cap on many of their pesticide containers, so maybe now is the time to change.

The simpler manual coupler from Pentair/Hypro was shown on the Syngenta stand, while Lechlar offered an electronically controlled version that allowed the amount of chemical to be transferred to be accurately pre-set.

These units allow part container dispensing and full washing without removing the cap.

While some sprayer manufacturers already do offer built in CTS systems, others are working to offer such solutions as an alternative to standalone units.
