A total of 684 used tractors were imported and re-registered in Ireland during the first quarter of 2026.

This marks a 15% increase in volume terms for the period in 2026 compared with 2025, based on registration statistics generated by the Revenue Commissioners, and compiled by the FTMTA Statistics Service.

The strength of the imported used tractor market remains significant in Ireland even though for the first quarter of 2026 (Q1 2026) it was exceeded by the new tractor market.

There were 1,069 new tractors registered in Ireland during Q1 2026. Meanwhile, the number of used tractor imports was also stronger than previous years at 765 units.

When the numbers of vintage tractors are removed from the figure, there were 684 used modern and classic second-hand tractors imported and registered in Ireland for the first time in Q1, 2026. The numbers of so-called vintage tractors, are those more than 30 years old, increased in 2026.

Table 1 provides a breakdown of the tractor brands imported as used tractors in the first quarter of this year.

With an increased market share, New Holland dominated the imported used market in Q1, 2026 yet again, accounting for 35.67% of all used tractors imported and registered between January and March this year.

John Deere leaped ahead of Massey Ferguson to take second place with a growing share of 18.57% share. Meanwhile, Massey Ferguson slipped into third place with a 13.74% share. Horsepower ratings show that there are significant numbers of higher horsepower used tractors being imported and registered.

Models

In Table 2, we list the 13 most popular makes and models of used tractors imported and registered in Ireland for the first three months of 2026. New Holland dominated the market with eight tractors ranked in the top 13, while John Deere had two and Massey Ferguson only one. Case IH and JCB also had one tractor each in the top 13 models imported used tractors that were registered. Almost half of the top 12 used tractors imported into Ireland in Q1, 2026 were rated at over 150 horsepower.

Once again this year, the New Holland T7.210 clearly remains the market leader as the most popular imported secondhand tractor into Ireland. The T5.120 model ranked third and the T7.225 model in fourth place overall.

With an increasing market share, the Case IH Puma 165 model ranked fifth overall. Other popular New Holland tractors among the used imports were the T7.200, T6.155 and T5.105 all equally ranked in sixth position.

New Hollands T6.180 shared seventh ranking with the JCB Fastrac 4220, the Massey Ferguson MF 5455, and the John Deere 6130M/R and the New Holland TA/TS 100A models. The Case IH Puma 165 was in ninth place.

John Deere was the second most popular brand with just two models, the 6155R/M and the ever popular 6130 model. Massey Ferguson had just one tractor in the top rankings, the MF 5455, while the overall Massey Ferguson share of the imported used tractor market has declined. From the top 10 listings, the average horsepower was marginally up from 143hp in Q1 2025 to 144hp in Q1 2026.
