Cancelled: Blue Jean Country Queen Festival 2021

Aoife Scanlon, reigning 2019 Blue Jean Country Queen with Alison O'Connor 2018 Blue Jean Country Queen.

The Blue Jean Country Queen Festival committee has announced this week that this year’s festival will not go ahead due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be the second consecutive year that the festival has been cancelled.

The Macra na Feirme personality contest, which sees women from all over the country and abroad descend on Athboy, Co Meath, each June Bank Holiday weekend took a significant blow last year, with the COVID-19 pandemic reaching our shores just as the committee announced that both The Blizzards and Jake Carter would be headlining over the festival weekend.

In a statement issued on the Blue Jean Country Queen Festival social media, the committee expressed their gratitude to “all the supporters of the festival who have stuck by us over the years and the community of Athboy, who are always so supportive of our committee and the festival.”

The committee is already beginning the preparations for next year’s festival and is looking forward to welcoming everyone back to Athboy again over the June Bank Holiday weekend in 2022.
