Limerick City Macra

Mairead O’Driscoll, the new chairperson of Limerick City Macra, was delighted to begin the new Macra year by presenting a cheque for €900 to The Butterfly Club. The club raised the money during its Know Your Neighbour event, which was a huge success. Members organised a bake sale and with Blue Jean Country Queen Kate Manning was in attendance. Activities included face-painting, balloon-making, nail-painting, line-dancing classes and a variety of games.

The Butterfly Club is close to the hearts of those in Limerick City Macra because member Lynn Liston volunteers with the club.

It is a social club for children with special needs, aged three years and upwards, from all areas of Limerick. It is run by volunteers and aims to provide leisure activities in a safe, fun-filled environment, while providing respite for parents/guardians.

Eilis Mullane and Eileen O’Riordan were delighted to accept the cheque on behalf of all the children involved in The Butterfly Club. Limerick City Macra members were delighted to have raised so much money for such a good cause.

Carrigaline Macra

Carrigaline Macra hosted several charity initiatives at the annual Cork Summer Show this year, raising over €1,200 for Marymount Hospice. The official cheque was presented to a representative of the hospice at the club’s AGM.

Carrigaline Macra hosted many activities, including hook-a-duck, face-painting, milk-a-cow, crisps in a tractor cab, an information stand, photobooth, a Father’s Day challenge, free high-visibility jackets and holly saplings and a flash mob dance routine.

Club meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month in the Stables Bar, Carrigaline. There are several trips away and events planned over the next few weeks, including club officer training in Tipperary, a bowling night and the annual conference in Laois (also known as the Macra Rally). For more information, find Carrigaline Macra on Facebook. New members are welcome.

Ferbane/Banagher Macra

Ferbane/Banagher Macra recently presented Joshua Connon with a cheque for €726 in Hiney’s Bar, Ferbane. The cheque was raised from members of the club holding a 5km run/walk in Lough Boora Parklands on 20 July. The event was held as part of the Macra Know Your Neighbour Weekend and the Joshua’s Float Our Boat campaign. The funds will go towards a new rowing boat and equipment for Joshua, who is a member of the Offaly Rowing Club in Tullamore.

The club was delighted to be able to help this great cause as Joshua thoroughly enjoys rowing, even on cold December mornings.

Thanks to Joshua and his family, who were so appreciative of all they did. The club wishes Joshua the very best of luck.
