Corrin mart held its weekly general cattle sale on Tuesday. Close to 400 cattle went under the hammer, the vast majority of which were bullocks.

Bullocks

Table 1 gives a full breakdown of bullock prices on the day. Over 300 were sold. The lighter 350-400kg store bullock made an average price of €1.65/kg. Friesians ranged from €1.15-1.40/kg. Hereford and Angus lots started at €1.70/kg and the better quality of these came into just over €1.95/kg.

Moving up the weights, 400-500kg bullocks averaged €1.66/kg. A strong showing of Friesians started at €1.15/kg with stronger Friesian crosses rising up to a high of €1.52/kg. Angus and Herefords started at the €1.50/kg mark and the best climbed up to €2/kg.

Those from 500-600kg also averaged out at €1.65/kg. Friesians and Friesian crosses sold from €1.35/kg up to €1.50/kg for stronger types. Angus, Hereford and a scattering of Limousin animals ranged from €1.60-1.80/kg. A pen of three 27-month-old Charolais cross bullocks, averaging 516kg, sold for €950 (€1.84/kg).

Heavy bullocks weighing over 600kg averaged just under €1.60/kg. Friesian lots traded from €1.50/kg to €1.60/kg, while Angus and Hereford cattle sold for €1.60-1.70/kg. A selection of continental lots, mainly Charolais, sold for between €1.70-1.90/kg.

Heifers

There was a small selection of heifers on offer. Table 2 gives a full breakdown of the prices.

Light 350-400kg animals averaged €1.82/kg. Better quality lots came closer to €1.95/kg, while plainer heifers dropped to around €1.70/kg.

Up the weights, 400-500kg heifers averaged €1.81/kg. The tops in this category were able to make over €2/kg while plainer lots were back down at €1.60/kg on average.

Cows

Twenty-eight cull cows went under the hammer on Tuesday too, the bulk of which were dairy stock. Friesian cows made from €1/kg up to €1.30/kg. On a per head basis, that works out at between €600 and €900.

A handful of continental cows sold for €1.40-1.45/kg or €1,000 to €1,150 per head.

Corrin Mart

Commission is €9/head to the buyer. The seller is subject to an entry fee of €2.50 plus 1.5% commission with a minimum of €9.50/head.
