Weanling sales are now taking place each Tuesday in Aurivo Mart, Balla, with over 220 weanlings entered in this week’s sale.

Trade was good throughout, with lighter bull weanlings a particularly good trade.

Weanling bulls

Weanling bulls weighing 200kg to 300kg averaged €2.99/kg, up 13c/kg on the week, with the top third of animals in this weight band averaging €3.28/kg.

Bull weanlings between 300kg and 400kg averaged €2.60/kg, up 6c/kg on the previous week.

Weanlings from 400kg to 500kg averaged €2.33/kg, with the top third making €2.63/kg, while weanling bulls over 450kg averaged €2.19/kg, although numbers in this weight category were small.

Sample bull prices

A sample of the bull prices include:

  • An April-born Simmental weighed 255kg and sold for €750 (€2.94/kg).
  • A March-born Charolais weighing 270kg sold for €880 (€3.26/kg).
  • A March-born Charolais weighing 265kg sold for €920 (€3.47/kg).
  • A February-born Charolais weighing 395kg sold for €1,100 (€2.78/kg).
  • A January-born Limousin weighing 415kg sold for €1,000 (€2.41/kg).
  • Weanling heifers

    Weanling heifers from 200kg to 300kg averaged €2.67/kg, while the top third made €3.28/kg.

    In the 300kg to 400kg weight range, the average price paid was €2.45/kg, with a general range of €2.35/kg to €2.60/kg for decent-quality lots, while top-quality lots made more and up to €3.17/kg for a January-born Charolais weighing 315kg (€1,000).

    A small entry of heifers weighing between 400kg and 450kg averaged €2.11/kg.

    A February-born Angus weighing 415kg sold for €715 (€1.81/kg), while a February-born Charolais weighing 410kg sold for €1,000 (€2.44/kg).
