McKeever completed a Nuffield Scholarship in 2011 and is a board member of Nuffield Ireland. She has been a member of the agricultural science graduates' association since 2004 and served on its council several times, most recently as vice-president.

Speaking at the close of the ASA conference alongside Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed, she said: "We have heard today the challenges this presents and we must ensure that agricultural science graduates are in a position to contribute. The focus for my presidency will be to continue to build the capability of our members through a programme of events in the areas of professional development, upskilling on the latest science and the continued provision of important networking opportunities."
