Will it beef up meat sales? The refrigerated machine went into service last week and is the first of its kind in the French capital, according to local daily Le Parisien.

The newspaper reports that 250g sirloin steak is available for €8.50, two pork chops for €5 and a plate of beef carpaccio for €6 – all 24/7.

The vending machine is located in the Charonne area, known for its bustling night life, and can expect constant footfall into the small hours and at the weekend.

L’Ami Txulette invited suggestions for the products to stock in the machine through its Facebook page and received several requests for beef roasts on Sundays. Free-range chicken and Basque specialities from the owners’ native region were also mentioned.

The machine accepts cash and credit cards, and it welcomes customers with the slogan: “Your Basque butcher, any time.”
