Only two and a half weeks after the birth of her baby Paddy, Emma Ferguson from Trim, Co Meath,was crowned national brown bread baking champion at the Ploughing.

The competition took place on Thursday and Emma’s brown bread will now be stocked in Aldi stores nationwide for a minimum of six months.

Traditional appearance

During this time, Emma, who has two other sons Johnny (4) and Charlie (2), will receive a share of the profits, guaranteed to be at least €10,000.

The winning bread was commended by the judges because of its traditional appearance and perfect texture.

The competition was relaunched four years ago and is sponsored by Aldi in association with the National Ploughing Association and the Irish Countrywomen's Association.
