The first of the new Italian-built Merlo Multifarmer telescopic handlers has arrived on Irish soil to McHale Plant Sales, Irish Merlo importers. The MF34.7 model in question is the smallest offering in the four-model series, which ranges from 136hp to 170hp.

This unique telehandler-tractor hybrid is said to be the brainchild of Merlo. With the addition of a three-point linkage, the firm believes the Multifarmer is the ideal multipurpose tool for all types of farm work.

The MF34.7 is fitted with a 3.6l four-cylinder Deutz engine which churns out 136hp. Coupled to this power plant is a 40km/h CVTronic hydrostatic transmission and Eco Power Drive (EPD) which is designed to automatically control and adjust engine rpm dependant on operating conditions.

This leaves the engine speed disconnected from the accelerator pedal. Merlo says this reduces fuel consumption.

Its typical telescopic loader capacity includes a maximum lift weight of 3.4t (3,400kg) and a maximum lift height of 6.85m. Its category II three-point linkage system includes a PTO and 32t-rated pickup hitch. The rear linkage has a maximum lift capacity of 4t (4,000kg), with the larger two models in the range offering a 7t (7,000kg) lift capacity.

Both 540/1000 PTO speeds can be selected, which is managed from the electronic control unit inside the cab. The MF34.7 is equipped with both hydraulic and air brakes along with two rear spool valves as standard.

Cab width has been extended and the control layout redesigned. The MF34.7 comes with the option of the premium cab, improving operator comfort. Some of the new features include hydro-pneumatic cab suspension, joystick with reverse shuttle, inching pedal, Dynamic Load Control (M CDC) anti-tipping system, the optional 8.5in colour display and air conditioning.
