The price of dairy commodities traded on the New Zealand-based platform fell by 1.2% this week after a similar drop a fortnight ago, erasing gains made mid-May.

This reflects lower prices for milk powders (whole and skimmed), which form the bulk of goods on this market. Cheddar fell by a more severe 3.6%.

However butter continued its ascent, climbing 0.8% to $5,611/t (€4,852/t).

The Oceania-based market has been much more subdued than Europe's in recent months. The GDT price index has virtually stagnated since February, while average EU butter prices have jumped to nearly €6,000/t, approaching last year's record level. Powders have also seen rises.

Cheddar quotes, however, are on a downward trend in Europe.
