Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed highlighted the competitiveness of the Irish agri food sector and the need for to be prepared for Brexit in his address to the Food Wise 2025 High Level Implementation Committee.

Speaking at the 16th meeting of the committee the Minister stated that work was continuing to mitigate the possible impacts of Brexit.

“My Department is engaging fully with industry stakeholders to ensure that everybody is fully sighted on the Brexit issues. We will continue with this dialogue as the negotiations proceed,” Creed said.

In addition to engaging with industry stakeholders the Minister is also continuing a series of bilateral engagements with EU counterparts.

As competitiveness is one of the key aspects of the Food Wise strategy the Minister has said that his Department continues to engage with stakeholders to address challenges at farm and processing level.

He focused his attention on how Food Wise was aimed at building on Ireland's comparative advantages in terms of its sustainable, grass-fed production system, its positive business environment, and its reputation in science-based innovation and product development”.

The People in Dairy Action Plan was also presented by Tom Moran. The Minister commended the group on what he said was an excellent piece of work.
