Tirlán adds to winter bonus in NI
NI suppliers to Tirlán will receive higher winter bonus payments during 2026-2027 than in the previous year. The co-op confirmed it will pay a 3p/l bonus in October and November, increasing to 3.5p/l in December and January, before reverting back to a 3p/l bonus in February. Last winter, Tirlán paid 3p/l from October to February inclusive.
NI Halal slaughter
In response to a Freedom of Information request, DAERA has confirmed it does not categorise abattoirs as being either Halal or non-Halal in NI.
The reply makes clear that all cattle and sheep in NI are stunned pre-slaughter, with no abattoirs approved for non-stun slaughter. No discussions have been held on any potential future provision for non-stun slaughter.
