Texel ewes were in high demand at the first export sale of in-lamb females at Ballymena Mart. The 'Ballymena Babes' sale saw 58 in-lamb Texel gimmers, two ewe lambs and seven embryos go under the hammer.
With more than 100 online bidders, gimmers sold to an average of £971.35 with a 95% clearance rate. In total, 13 animals made over £1,000.
Top price was 3,800gns for the Milnbank flock, owned by Robbie Wilson, Aberdeenshire. Milnbank also sold to 3,200gns and across an entry of nine sheep, the flock averaged £2,053.

Leading the trade for local breeders was the Templepark flock, owned by W & J Herdman, Dromore, Co Down. They also sold in-lamb gimmers to 3,200gns and finished with a sale average of £1,053.50.
The Drumadowney flock of Stephen McNeilly sold to a top price of 2,800gns.
