On Saturday 13 September last, the Irish Angus Cattle Society held its All-Ireland show at Strokestown.

Competition was extremely strong as 165 top-quality Irish Angus cattle battled it out for the top accolades.

Mathew Goulding, from Kilmore, Ballyduff Co. Kerry won the coveted prize of supreme Irish Angus all-Ireland champion 2014 at the show with Goulding Missie M535 who was born 14 March 2012. She is by Nightingale Proud Jake. She also won the All-Ireland senior Irish Angus female champion award.

The reserve supreme all-Ireland champion was awarded to Loughlynn Legal Action, a March 2014-born bull sired by Tivanagh Baron and bred by Patrick Regan jnr, Cloonmore, Ballyfarna, Claremorris, Co Mayo. Loughlynn Legal Action also went away with the Irish Angus junior male champion award.

The Irish Angus junior female champion was awarded to Knockadrinan Kate, an October 2013-born heifer by Rawburn Edge J983 and bred by Thomas P Reynolds, Knockadrinan, Johnstons Bridge, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim.

The reserve female champion went to Steil K Evelyn 251, an October 2013-born heifer by Te Mania Berkely B1 and bred by Cathal and JJ McCormack, Steil, Tulsk, Castlerea, Co Roscommon.

The reserve junior male champion was won by Steil Kozmo 249, a September 2013-born bull by Te Mania Berkley B1, another winner for the breeder Cathal and JJ McCormack, Steil, Tulsk, Castlerea, Co Roscommon.

The reserve female champion went to Carrigroe Lady Jancy F670, an April 2006-born cow by Cashelane Bowie A337 for J and F Appelbe, Carrigroe, Clonakilty, Co Cork.

Senior male champion was awarded to Drumcrow Piping Hot, a June 2012-born bull by Cartron Roe Ansley for breeders Joseph and Michael Moran, Powerstown, Goresbridge, Co Kilkenny.

The reserve senior male champion was Laheens Kevin, a May 2013-born bull by Mogeely Joe for breeder Cathal Duignan, Laheen House, Eslin Bridge, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim.  

Best pair on the day went to Bernard Kerins, Carnaree, Ballymote, Co Sligo and the best group of three went to Kevin Diffley, Clooncolligan, Bornacoola, Co Leitrim.

Showmanship awards

The judge on the day for the Youth Development Programme Showmanship awards was Glen Patterson, from Drum in Co Sligo. In the junior section, first place went to Ronan Dockery, Towra, Shinrone, Co Offaly; second place went to Adrian Dockery, Towra, Shinrone, Co Offaly and in third place was Dylan Dockery, again from Towra, Shinrone, Co Offaly.

In the intermediate section, Nicola Farrell, Moundillon, Curraghroe, Co Roscommon was the winner. Aaron Murphy, Ross, Glasson, Athlone, Co Westmeath came second and third place went to Michelle Farrell, Mountdillon, Curraghroe, Co Roscommon.

In the senior section, the All-Ireland went to Maire Mullooly, Lavally, Strokestown, Co Roscommon with Grainne Horan, Solaker, Coolcran, Knockmore, Ballina, Co Mayo coming in second place. Third place went to Christopher O’Connor, Cloonroughan, Elphin, Co Roscommon.
