A left turn off the N2 Dublin/Derry road outside Slane (on the Asbourne side) brought me to a fine 234-acre non-residential tillage farm last week. With an address at Gilltown, Slane, Co Meath, this is the second 200-acre plus farm to arrive on the market in Co Meath this year – the other being a 238-acre holding near Ratoath which was brought to the market earlier in the year. From our records, just over a dozen properties comprising 200 acres or more have been offered for sale across the country to date this year, making them an extremely rare entity and a pretty special package when they do appear.

Road frontage

Operated as an out farm, Gilltown was formerly used as a grazing farm but in the past 10 to 15 years it has been tilled for cereals. One of the unusual aspects is the huge amount of road frontage. The property has frontage to four different county roads, making it extremely conductive to lots ranging from circa 32 acres to circa 98 acres in size. These are likely to generate interest from locals or farmers in the vicinity who may have the purchasing ability to buy a lovely 30-acre block but who may not be in a position to acquire over 200 acres. Gilltown will be offered for sale by auction on 21 September in the auction room of Raymond Potterton, Navan, at 3pm. The guide price is in the region of €10,000/acre.
