Interest in rooftop solar PV among livestock farmers has surged at this year’s National Ploughing Championships, according to Darren Buckley, Commercial Director at Alternative Energy Ireland.
We caught up with Darren at the event where he explained that this increase is partly driven by the improved fortunes of the livestock sector, leaving more funds available for investment in technology.
“We saw a significant rise in enquiries at the Ploughing this year – up 30% compared to last year,” Darren said. “It’s remarkable considering the level of competition and the number of farmers and homeowners who have already installed solar.”

According to Darren, familiarity with solar PV is growing among farmers, the 60% TAMS grant, and rising energy costs are all factors in encouraging farmers to invest in the technology.
