Husqvarna recently took the wraps off its new T540i XP and 540i XP chainsaws.

The manufacturer has decided to ditch exhausts and loud noises with its the new battery-powered chainsaws.

The firm claims that the battery-powered chainsaws will deliver power on par with the equivalent of a 40cc petrol chainsaw for professional use.

Husqvarna are pushing the move to battery power, largely for the operator who will be subject to less noise and less vibrations, which means less strain on the body.

They have said the battery technology and electric motor, equipped with its latest X-Cut chain SP21G, makes the new T540i XP strong enough for drop cuts of thick trunks and branches while being fast enough for smaller work.

The rear-handle version 540i XP boasts the same power. The battery status of the saws is visible on the newly developed interface.

The chainsaw now starts and stops at the press of a button. The saws are powered by lithium-ion batteries. They are equipped with 36V BLDC (brushless) motors.

At maximum power, the chain speed is capable of running at 24m/s. Excluding the battery and cutting equipment, the T540i XP weighs in at 2.5kg, while the 540i XP weighs in at 2.9kg.

The 12in T540i XP is priced at €652 including VAT, while the 14in 540i XP is priced at €663 including VAT.
