Pöttinger has just announced its entry to the film-on-film market with a new multi-function binding unit.

The binding unit, which is available as an option, can use net or film on its Impress range of round balers (fixed and variable).

Pöttinger say only a short time is needed to change over from one material to the other. The roll of net or binding film is hydraulically braked by a tension roller. The firm have said an additional tail binding unit allows the binding film to be fed reliably into the bale chamber.

Sliding roller

To make it easier to change between net and film or vice versa, an additional sliding roller has been installed in front of the roll holder.

The roll holder is designed to accommodate rolls of binding material up to 1,420mm wide with a diameter of up to 310mm.

For operational reliability, a camera is installed as standard, allowing the driver to monitor the binding and wrapping process.

Interestingly, Pöttinger recommends that farmers store bales standing up when using film on film.

The company says the pressure of the contents expands the film, causing the layers to be pressed together, sealing the bale even better.

Pöttinger has also introduced a bale landing mat as an option to protect the bale when dropped off the wrapper, designed especially for whole crop. The mat is mounted under the wrapper and can be unrolled when needed.
