New Holland enthusiasts from all over the country flocked to Kilkenny to attend a hugely successful open day last week. The company had a total of 37 products on display, including all its latest innovations. It is estimated that a crowd of over 1,200 people came through the doors on the day.

Tractors

New Holland had everything on display, from compact tractors right up to bulky high-horsepower machines. However, the focus was on the introduction of the new S series.

The new series was officially launched into the Irish market at last week’s event. The S series was designed for users who do not require all the bells and whistles. It’s a more basic tractor, which offers users New Holland tractors at a lower price.

Power is provided via a stage IV-compliant FPT Industrial NEF engine, without the Engine Power Management function (essentially without the boost). New Holland calls the S series tractors a “middle-level entry configuration” and have excluded the offering of “high-end features”.

The tractors will be limited to a maximum speed of 40km/h. Other exclusions to the S series include electric spools, LED lighting and air seats. However, the same cab and front suspension system will be available.

The new series is available in T6 and T7 ranges in the following models; T6.125S, T7.165S, T7.195S and the T7.215S.

New transmission

New Holland began retailing tractors with the new Dynamic Command Transmission (DCT) in Ireland this year, just months after they unveiled the concept at Agritechnica. The introduction of DCT in Ireland has gone down very well.

Currently, DCT is only available in the T6 series (T6.145, T6.155, T6.165, and T6.175). Although New Holland has suggested it may eventually be available in larger tractors.

DCT is a three-range, eight-step semi-powershift dual-clutch transmission that reduces the number of gearshifts required during operations.

The introduction of DCT has extended New Holland’s offering and has bridged the gap between the well-known entry-level Electro Command semi-powershift transmission and the Auto Command continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The new intelligent transmission is packed with a range of features, some of which make a semi-powershift transmission feel like a CVT transmission.

The Dynamic StartStop brake to clutch feature allows the operator to slow and stop the tractor using the brake pedal only, cutting out the need to use the clutch pedal or to engage into neutral. By releasing the brake the drive will then be re-engaged. The Smart Range Shift feature will alter the correct gear when making a range shift, skipping ranges if the transmission deems necessary for a smooth shift.

Auto Shift allows the tractor to shift gears on its own based on an adjustable engine speed threshold. Other features such as Ground Speed Management allow the user to select and maintain the target ground speed. Users can also choose between three adjustable forward/reverse shuttle aggression settings depending on the task in hand.

T6 transmission options

  • 16x16 Electro Command transmission with a four-step semi-powershift.
  • 24x24 Dynamic Command with three ranges, eight-step semi-powershift.
  • Auto Command with CVT.
  • Combines

New Holland announced the news of a new CR rotary combine coming on stream for the 2019 harvest.

New Holland announced a CR rotary combine that will be coming on stream for the 2019 harvest season. The CR7.80 will be the entry-level rotary machine offered by New Holland.

The new model will be powered by a Cursor 9 Common Rail engine with a rated power of 374hp and a maximum power of 415hp. The CR7.80 has a cleaning shoe with a single return. It has a 9,500-litre grain tank and a high unloading speed of 126 litres/second, with a 750-litre diesel tank.

The CR7.80 features a new ground drive with a two-speed gearbox, one gear for field work (0-17km/h) and the other for travelling on the road. The larger hydrostatic pump grants the new two-speed ground drive more of a tractive response in hilly conditions, according to New Holland.

The CR Revelation range of combines feature New Holland’s IntelliSense automation function. The aim of this function is to maintain maximum throughput while minimising grain losses and damage. The function results in the operator needing to make fewer decisions.

The IntelliSense feature allows the operator to select from one of four harvesting approaches – limited loss, best grain quality, maximum capacity or fixed throughput. Machine performance is constantly being analysed through a series of sensors throughout the combine.

New Holland’s IntelliCruise crop feeding system has the capability of automatically matching the combine’s forward speed to the crop load. Recently added features offer the operator three harvesting approaches: maximum capacity, fixed throughput or limited loss. Maximum capacity will increases the machine’s ground speed to reach maximum engine load or maximum ground speed. Fixed throughput will vary the ground speed of the combine in order to maintain a preset load to keep productivity at a constant level in varying yields. The limited loss function will alter the machine’s ground speed to provide a consistent flow, prioritising efficient harvesting with minimal loss.

New Holland combine experts informed us of some interesting statistics coming from the UK market, where they have witnessed the sales of rotary combines growing by 400% at the expense of straw walker machines. Combine experts put this substantial growth of rotary machines down to the fact that people now understand that there is “no compromise on straw quality between either machine”. In addition, almost 60% of new combines sold in the UK are equipped with tracks instead of larger tyres.

    Implements

New Holland launched a range of tillage and grassland implements at Agritechnica towards the end of 2017 after the acquisition of the Kongskilde group. It is reported that the company has sold a significant amount of units into the US market. The firm had a selection of implements on display in Kilkenny from both the tillage and grassland ranges.

The company has earmarked its range of grassland products for the 2019 season in Ireland. This includes front-mounted mowers, trailed and mounted mowers and tedders/rakes. Some features of the mower range includes Comer running gear, clip on blades, various conditioner options and a full length of wear plates underneath the bed.

New Holland is offering a range of semi-mounted, fully mounted, and variable width ploughs and had a number on display at the event in Kilkenny. New Holland has sold a number of these ploughs throughout the country this year.
