The rise equates to $454m from June 2016 figures.

Exports from the southern hemisphere country are valued at $4.7bn as of June 2017.

Dairy commodity exports have also risen significantly since last year, with a $372m increase cited, or 45%.

Butter, cheese and milk powders all saw increases in value year-on-year in June 2017 for the following:

  • NZ cheese exports up 23% or $31m.
  • NZ butter exports up 56% or $97m.
  • NZ milk powder exports up 52% $218m.

    Similarly to Ireland, China has been targeted for New Zealand exports, with dairy exports increasing by 63% over the past year, representing a jump of $188m.

    Whole milk powder (WMP) has seen a new five-year high in June, with exports reaching almost 126,000t.

    WMP to China rocketed up 71% compared to June 2016, with skimmed milk powder to the country up 53% from last year.

    Confidence and demand are growing across New Zealand at the moment, highlighted by Fonterra increasing its milk price to almost 30c/l this week.
