Farmers in Cork have been warned not display phone numbers on signs erected for the Bord Bia Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme, in case doing so encourages burglary.

According to IFA dairy chair Sean O’Leary, some manufacturers made signs with a blank space for the farmer to write in his or her contact number.

“Personal details are not required under the Bord Bia SDAS. This will not affect your auditing score, as hanging the signs in the appropriate places is all that is required. We raised this with Bord Bia and they have contacted signage manufacturers to ask them to change their design.”
