Would you believe, the penny-wise folk of Cavan are set to host their annual monstrous Christmas lights vehicle parade this Sunday 21 December.
While some may say that they can peel an orange in their pocket, one thing for sure is that they know how to pull off a charity event!
Named in honour of the late Kevin Smith - volunteer and former organiser of the charity Christmas lights vehicles parade - the run will take place this Sunday 21 December, departing from Cavan Equestrian Centre at 4.45pm, before making its way into Cavan town for 5pm.
If the sight of hundreds of illuminated vehicles weren’t enough, I’ve heard that before the wheels are put in motion on the day, numerous other activities will take place from noon at the centre, including tractor dyno testing, a mini digger skills challenge and more.
Rumour has it that a 500hp-plus tractor - more costly than a family home in Cavan - might even be there on the day. In my day, it would have took more than 10 tractors to match that number of ponies.

The day promises no shortage of entertainment, kicking off from noon at Cavan Equestrian Centre before moving into Cavan's market square.
I have heard whispers that there will even be a guest appearance during the dyno testing, someone by the name of Sammy TV . . . no, not RTE, but some recognisable female face some of you may know from the world of social media!
With €363,000 collected for various charities since 2012, all proceeds collected on the day will be in aid of five charities: CUAN (Cancer Understanding and Nurturing) – Cavan Branch; the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust (KBRT), St Christopher's Hospice Cavan; and the Vincent McGee Benefit Fund.
Anyhow, tractors, trucks, cars and vehicles of all kinds laden down with Christmas lights are welcome. Vehicle registration and donations can be made online at CLVP.ie.
Maybe, being from Cavan you may want to save your diesel and watch from the sidelines. If so, there will be refreshments and activities such as live music and a visit from Santa taking place in Cavan town.
