I see Taoiseach Micheál Martin told US broadcaster Fox News that Kerrygold could be the next Irish product to benefit from a whiskey-like tariff relief from US President Donald Trump.
“Kerrygold butter here is a great butter, and it’s hugely appreciated by American consumers. It’s probably one of the best butters in the world,” he said.
Firstly, Martin didn’t call for tariffs to be removed on Irish butter but simply Kerrygold. Presumably any lifting of tariffs would include all Irish butter but no others get a mention. I also noticed his less-than whole-hearted praise of Kerrygold – we all know that it is the best butter in the world. No “probably” or “one of the best” about it.
