Cashman is taking over from Jackie Cahill, who is vacating the position to contest the upcoming general election for Fianna Fáil.

While Cahill did not have to vacate the position, he decided to do so in order to focus his attention on the campaign ahead.

Well liked and a capable performer, Cashman is currently chairman of the IFA’s Liquid Milk Committee and farms in Co Cork. His father Donie is a former IFA and ICOS president.

John Murphy has been elected vice chairman.

ICMSA president John Comer was, at one point, thought to be in the running for the role but did not feature in the final shakeup.
