My ears pricked up when the discussion at an Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) meeting in Co Tyrone moved onto the topic of bluetongue.

Probably like a lot of farmers, I haven’t much of a clue what to do when it comes to vaccinating my livestock. But in the meantime, I think I’ll take on board the views of UFU deputy president Glenn Cuddy.

“Talk to your vets and take their advice and then go and see another vet and see what their advice is – because they can’t agree among one another,” he told his fellow Tyrone farmers. For me, I think he summed it all up perfectly.
