The Irish Farmers Journal understands the board of Kerry Co-op is considering proposals to make Thomas Hunter McGowan chief executive of Kerry Co-op. McGowan is currently company secretary. He was previously CEO of Intertrade Ireland. The role would involve a hefty pay rise.
We also understand one of the proposals before the co-op board is to discuss and ratify the co-op becoming a trading co-op. Kerry Co-op hasn’t traded since 1986. The co-op owns around 13% of Kerry Group. Essentially, the co-op is a large shareholder and operates as a holding company. The board is made up of farmers from a representative structure covering electoral areas.
