On Wednesday 22 October, two days prior to the presidential election, IFA president Francie Gorman issued a statement which read:

“Former IFA presidents are private citizens and can choose to run in elections or endorse any candidate they see fit. However, they do not speak for IFA and IFA does not support any candidate in this election or any other election.”

He added that the “IFA is a strictly non-political organisation as set out in our constitution”, and called on all farm families to use their vote and vote for the candidate of their choosing.
