Over 50 weanlings and other lots will go under the hammer at Kanturk Mart on 23 March at 7pm to raise funds for local young man Rickie Healy, who is entering rehab treatment after a spinal injury.

Each weanling was sponsored by a company, including many national agribusinesses and local firms such as contractors, solicitors and bars. The sponsor paid for the purchase of the animal, while a local farmer volunteered to rear it until the sale. This will leave 100% of the proceeds of the sale to go to the appeal for Rickie Healy.

"These animals have been picked out by experts and reared by top-class farmers. The auction night presents an opportunity for buyers to pick up these quality animals," said organiser Caroline O'Connell. A range of breeds, including Limousin, Aberdeen Angus and Charolais, will be on offer.

There will also be a raffle, entertainment and refreshments throughout the night. Other items for sale at the auction include Ed Sheeran tickets, signed rugby jerseys and jockey breeches, and farm supplies, including a load of straw.

"It is sure to be a great night. The support from the farming community has been overwhelming," Caroline said.
