A dress made from defected milk filters has been created by Mountrath Community School transition year students Orlaith Walsh, Anna Phelan and Ava Meagher for the national Junk Kouture competition.

Along with two classmates, the girls entered the milk filter dress in a bid to raise awareness about the number of deaths on Irish farms. The girls also want to highlight the work of Embrace Farm, a support network set up to help those affected by farm accidents.

The national fashion competition encourages young designers to create couture designs and impressive works of wearable art from everyday junk that would normally find its way into the bin.

The girls' creation has been picked for the regional finals that started on Monday 10 February. The winner will be chosen through a voting system.
