Construction has begun on what is set to become Ireland's largest rooftop solar installation at Mannok's manufacturing facilities in Co Cavan.

The 6MW project, being delivered by Activ8 Solar Energies under a power purchase agreement (PPA) with SSE Airtricity, will cover 9.52 acres of rooftop space across the company's production facilities.

Once completed, the installation will comprise approximately 10,000 solar panels and is expected to supply a significant proportion of Mannok's electricity demand.

The company estimates the project will reduce carbon emissions by approximately 792t annually.

The rooftop array will cover an area equivalent to almost three GAA pitches and will be the largest rooftop solar installation in Ireland.

Agreement

Structured as a fully funded PPA with SSE Airtricity, the project will enable Mannok to avail of onsite renewable electricity generation without upfront capital investment.

Managing director of SSE Airtricity Stephen Gallagher said: “By removing the need for upfront capital investment, businesses can access renewable energy solutions with immediate benefits and predictable costs.

"This project is made possible by our fully funded solar initiative announced with Activ8 earlier this year and demonstrates our commitment to helping customers decarbonise with confidence.”
