Germany – cow numbers increase

German cow numbers increased marginally in 2025, up 7,200 head to 3.6 million, but over the past 10 years there has been a 16% decline or 688,000 head (DCA).

UK – pig numbers up and down

In the June 2025 census, UK fattening pig numbers increased by 1% to 4.33 million head, but the number of breeding sows fell by 3% to 407,000 (AHDB).

Uruguay – surge in cattle value

Uruguay’s beef cattle sector generated revenue in excess of $3.4bn (€2.9bn) in 2025, a 35% increase on 2024 and a new record (WBR).

New Zealand – trade stalemate

New Zealand has still not secured tariff-free entry to Thailand for dairy products, which had been due to commence in January 2025, despite having been agreed in a trade deal (FWNZ).
