United Arab Emirates – retail sales up
UAE retail sales increased by 6.3% in 2025 to $20bn (€18bn) in 2025, with consumer food imports up 9.3% to $17.7bn (€16bn). The USDA expects a further 3% increase in retails sales this year.
Thailand – severe flooding affects farmers
The USDA reports that severe late-September floods in Thailand affected 15,000 farmers and caused the death of 3.25m laying hens.
USA – fuel relief programme
The US administration this week announced a $8bn (€7.2bn) harvest fuel relief programme for one-time payments to offset market disruptions and increased input costs.
Brazil – milk production rises
DCA reports that Brazil’s milk production increased by 1.9% in the first half of 2026, despite the number of dairy cows falling by 2.7% to 14.68m head in 2025.
