A climate summit for all NI farmers is being held in Cookstown ahead of a crunch vote on the Executive’s climate change bill.

The event will hear from expert speakers on how a proposed net zero emissions target for NI could affect family farms.

The summit is being organised by the Irish Farmers Journal and takes place at the Glenavon Hotel on Wednesday 16 February at 8pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Meanwhile, crucial amendments to the Executive’s climate bill are expected to be tabled at Stormont in the coming days.

Some proposed changes will aim to reduce the damage that a net zero emissions target will have on the NI farming industry.

Farmers are being urged to contact their local MLAs to press them to support meaningful amendments that will protect the agriculture sector. A crunch vote on proposed changes is expected to take place at Stormont the week after next.

Despite the ongoing political turmoil at Stormont, the Executive’s climate bill is still on course to become law before May’s Assembly election.

For those that cannot make it to Cookstown on Wednesday evening, the Irish Farmers Journal climate summit will be live streamed on www.farmersjournal.ie.
