In Northern Ireland (NI), the co-op has maintained its price for November milk supplied at 47.5p/l. This also includes an input support payment of 1.5p/l.

All NI farmers supplying to Lakelands on fixed milk price contracts will receive a 7p/litre supplementary payment, plus the additional 1.5p/litre input support payment.

2022 additional payment

Lakeland Dairies has also decided to make an additional payment, in January 2023, for all milk supplied by its dairy farmers in 2022. This payment will equate to a 0.6c/l payment in the republic and 0.5p/l in NI.

The co-op is also planning to back-pay farmers an additional 0.6c/l for all milk supplied in 2022. \ Philip Doyle

According to a spokesperson, the move follows a budgetary provision needed to cater for extreme energy costs in 2022 that was not fully required.

On the outlook for 2023, the spokesperson said the co-op is aware that market conditions are changing significantly.

They said milk supply has increased in the large milk production regions across the world and global dairy markets have weakened considerably as a result.

“Higher inflation and interest rate increases have reduced consumer buying power and sentiment remains challenged,” they stated.
