The number of points needed to receive first-round offers for Level 8 agricultural science in UCD has risen by five points from last year to stand at 470. The number of points needed for the Level 8 Bachelor of Science in agricultural science in Waterford Institute of Technology has decreased by 15 points and stands at 415 points.

The four-year course in the Institute of Technology Tralee for Agricultural Science has the lowest points requirement for a Level 8 agricultural science course. It stands at 370.

Some 300 points are required for Level 7 agricultural science in the Institute of Technology Tralee, while the Level 8 horticulture and agri-environmental sciences course in UCD requires 410 points, up 20 points on last year.

A total of 52,028 applicants received a round one CAO offer this morning, with a total of 40,599 Level 8 round one offers sent out. The number of Level 7/6 round one offers stands at 34,595.

Some 376 Level 8 offers were made to students in the course group of agriculture and horticulture with 147 of these offered as first preference courses. At Level 7 and Level 6, 418 offers were made in agriculture and horticulture with 337 of these offered as a first preference.

Some 7,672 Leaving Cert students sat the agricultural science paper this year – 6,067 at higher level and 1,605 at ordinary level. Of those who sat the higher level paper, 4.1% received an A1 grade. Just 0.1% of those who sat the ordinary level paper received an A1. This is slightly down on the number of students who received an A1 grade last year.

A total of 85 students sat the higher level agricultural economics exam this year. Not one of these candidates failed the paper and 1.2% got an A1.
