Some 60,537t of skim milk powder (SMP) was sold out of EU intervention stocks on Monday 11 December, it has been confirmed.

The SMP sold at a minimum price of €1,451/t at the final tender sale of 2018.

This is a slight improvement on the minimum price paid at the last tender sale, where it was €1,310/t.

In this sale, some 33,984t of Irish SMP was for sale, the highest amount compared with any other EU member state.

Following the sale, some 102,590t of SMP remains in intervention stocks.

In 2018, over 270,000t of SMP was sold out of intervention.

It is hoped that the continued demand for SMP will be sustained into 2019, which could help boost dairy markets next year.
