In pristine premises, Diarmuid Claridge, general manager for Pottinger Ireland, along with his sales, service and parts team, said Pottinger sees the appointment of O’Shea Agri as a dealer as a huge step forwards.

“This is the next step in our progression to develop our dealer network to offer a greater service to our customers from a sales, service and parts point of view. We want to change how we sell machines and make it more enjoyable and informative for the customer. Appointing Paul Wilson as territory manager for the east of Ireland will ensure we can support our dealers better and grow our market share in both grass and tillage equipment sales.”

Technology

Diarmuid said farmers must invest in technology to save money and anyone who is not investing could be left behind: “Grain markets are depressed but technology is there to save you money. Farmers must look at costs per acre more so than tons per acre.”

Paul said: “Grass contamination is one of the biggest problems in silage making. We believe our mowers, in particular our cross flow mowers, reduce this greatly. This mower can merge grass with the swath being cut by the front mower. It also reduces the amount of wheelings across the field. Dealer principal Richard O’Shea said he was initially sceptical of Pottinger products but after a visit to the factory and parts centre in Austria his mind was made up.

“I have been to a lot of factories across Europe and PÖttinger stands out as one of the most impressive. Their parts distribution centre is extraordinary in size and it can quickly handle requests for parts.”

Parts and service

Parts and logistics manager with Pottinger Ireland Padraig Brazil said that a full and frequent training programme will follow with the staff in O’Shea Agri to ensure the right parts are in stock for the machines out there. “Ninety per cent of Pottinger parts are stocked on the shelf at our headquarters in Clonmel. If a customer needs a part that we don’t have in the country, we can have it shipped directly to him within 24 hours if it is ordered before 2pm.”

Open for business

Richard O’Shea said they are open for business immediately and are taking orders for 2018. When asked had he any plans for other brands to be added to his sales portfolio, he said: “I have a few other irons in the fire so watch this space”.
