Farmers looking to purchase ground close to their own farms is resulting in strong demand for good land. This was the case in a recent online auction in Roscommon.
A circa 14.55ac non-residential farm at Ardmullan, Kiltoom, Co Roscommon on the books of Connaughton Auctioneers, Athleague exceeded all expectations when it sold at auction on Thursday 25 January. All in one block, the roadside farm sold for €16,220/ac on the LSL online platform.
Bidding opened at €140,000 and continued until it went on the market at €220,000. It rose in bids of €2,000 before reaching €236,000 (€16,220/ac). The successful bidder was a local farmer.

Auctioneer Ivan Connaughton said: “There is big demand for good quality land and huge interest from farmers looking to consolidate their holdings and purchase properties that are close to their own farm.”
