Just days before Christmas, Murtagh Bros Auctioneers, Mullingar, completed the sale of two non-residential farms located in Co Longford by public auction.
The first farm to be offered for sale was a 23-acre parcel situated at Granardkill, a mile outside the town of Granard, Co Longford.
The land is all in one block and described by Murtagh Bros as “one of the best pieces of land to come on the market in Co Longford in a number of years”.
Bidding for the farm opened at €120,000 and rapidly increased in increments of €5,000 to €210,000, with two main bidders fighting it out. The bidding continued a little less frantically in €2,000 increments and went on the market at €224,000 before finishing at €226,000 (€9,380/ac). The purchaser was a local solicitor acting in trust.
Second property
The second property to be offered for sale, a 29-acre farm situated at Moatfarrell, Edgeworthstown, Co Longford, was said to be hotly anticipated, with seven active bidders on the land.
The property is described by Murtagh’s as “a beautiful holding in very good condition with a tidy farmyard and excellent road frontage”.
Bidding opened at €100,000 and after a number of brisk exchanges the property was put on the market after an offer of €255,000.
A local farmer and local businessman continued to battle it out for the farm before an offer of €272,000 (€9826/ac) was enough to win it out for the buisinessman.
