There have been a number of incidents of quad bikes being stolen from farms in counties Armagh and Down in the last week, the PSNI has said.

“We have received reports of a number of incidents of thefts in recent days, and we’re appealing to owners to help us by protecting their vehicles,” said Superintendent Brian Kee.

Police say there are a range of measures that farmers can take to minimise their risk of being targeted by thieves.

Police are urging farmers to consider fitting wheel clamps, locking posts or an alarm system

These include removing keys from quads and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) when not in use and parking as close to the dwelling house as possible, preferably out of sight from nearby roads.

Police are urging farmers to consider fitting wheel clamps, locking posts or an alarm system, as well as parking larger vehicles in front of doors to prevent easy access.

Other advice includes taking photographs and recording serial numbers, customise vehicles so they are identifiable, and consider installing tracking devices on high value vehicles and machinery.
