Finn Valley agricultural show was held last Saturday with a huge crowd venturing out in temperatures up to 28°C. Spectators were treated to a quality display of cattle and a large array of entertainment around the field.

In the Charolais section, judge Basil Bothwell tapped out Bostonia Nonstopabull as his Charolais champion. This September-born bull, out of Davally Illusion ET and Bostonia Jamelle, lived up to his name and went on to take the overall show champion.

Hereford champion went to Tom Eaton for his June 2017-born bull Beltany Klopp sired by Moyclare lieutenant (YLO).

Commercial ring

Derek Ormiston was in charge in the commercial ring. First championship of the day for the champion calf title went to the Barnett family’s black Belgian Blue cross bull calf “Sambuca” with Clive and Roy Stevenson’s Charolais cross bull calf in reserve. The calf class saw an impressive lineup and the Barnett family witnessed a repeat of last year, claiming top spot with a full brother of last year’s champion “Baby Guinness”.

Baby Guinness was back in winning form too for the Barnetts and took the baby beef class, Belgian Blue cross class, commercial championship and reserve overall champion of the show, closing a very successful day for the family who also had success in the sheep section with the champion commercial sheep.

The breeding heifer class went to Mick Friel with a very stylish Limousin cross heifer. This 14-month-old heifer is by Elite Forever Brill and also won the exhibitor-bred class.
